YOUR CHANCE TO SPEAK ON SCHOOL FUNDING

Nearly all politicians and school district officials will say the school funding formula is broken. This year Governor Walker's office appointed a Blue Ribbon Commission to examine the current funding formula and make suggestions to the state legislature that will be an equitable solution to school funding. This committee is made up of legislative leaders, private and public school superintendents, and Wisconsin school funding experts. They are making nine stops around the state and on Monday, May 21st from 1:00-5:00, will be stopping at our Turtle Lake School Auditorium. Next year they will examine how other states fund education and make a recommendation to state leaders for a new funding formula to possibly be implemented in the next biennial budget.

Turtle Lake School is the eighth of the nine visits. They will first listen to invited guests and then listen to anyone from the public with a time limit of five minutes. If you feel strongly about the way the State of Wisconsin funds education and would like to speak please come on Monday, May 21st.  You will be asked to fill out a slip indicating that you would like to speak.  During the open session, they will go in order of sign up. Those who wish to share concerns with the Commission, but cannot make it in person, can also submit testimony in writing to the Commission co-chairs, Rep. Joel Kitchens and Sen. Luther Olsen at and .

Please encourage anyone that has shown distaste to referendums or school finance to come and speak. This is a big event and everyone is welcome to speak to the commission.
